"Now, as you all know, the Black Rabbit of Inle is fear and everlasting darkness. He is a rabbit, but he is that cold, bad dream from which we can only entreat Lord Frith to save us today and tomorrow. When the snare is set in the gap, the Black Rabbit knows where the peg is driven; and when the weasel dances, the Black Rabbit is not far off. You all know how some rabbits seem just to throw their lives away between two jokes and a theft: but the truth is that their foolishness comes from the Black Rabbit, for it is by his will that they do not smell the dog or see the gun. The Black Rabbit brings sickness too. Or again, he will come in the night and call a rabbit by name: and then that rabbit must go out to him, even though he may be young and strong to save himself from any other danger. He goes with the Black Rabbit and leaves no trace behind. Some say that the Black Rabbit hates us and wants our destruction. But the truth is- or so they taught me- that he, too, serves Lord Frith and does no more than his appointed task- to bring about what must be. We come into the world and we have to go: but we do not go merely to served to the turn of one enemy or another." (Excerpt from Watership Down by Richard Adams) _______________________________
I've been in the process of re-reading this great book and it occured to me, I haven't done artwork of the Black Rabbit yet! Knowing my strangeness, I would have done it a long time ago. I hope I've done him justice. (I'm aiming that to those die-hard fans of the book.) Also, I recommend this book, it is just amazing!
I have never seen the movie but I long to. But I have seen screenshots and I like the "tribal" feel to it and I sort of incorporated that in. The symbols I made I tried to make with the thought of death. Arrows for man, spirals that end in a point for disease and odd looking eyes. (Not to mention rabbits.)
Sooner or later I will find a way to get good images....(I will complain about this till I do. And that means expect a reload soon.) Also, this will be my last fanart for awhile.

*The Black Rabbit of Inle and the excerpt belongs to Richard Adams. I, in no way, would ever claim it! The drawing is to me though.*
I love Watership Down so much! I think it's one of my favourite books. I've read it like, 5 times!! haha
This almost reminds me of the film with the kind of stylised streak of pictures across it, but it's so cool the way you've mixed it with realism at the same time. Keep up the great work.
Yes! You must. It's slightly different from the book but a great interpretation. The artwork and animation, though a little dated, works really well, and the music is fantastic.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

I do love Watership Down. In my re-reading, I slowly appreciate it more and more.
I wish I could see the film. It looks amazing. But that is where I got some of my inspiration from (screenshots anyways).
